Night, Night, Don’t Let the Bed Bug Bite…Get Rid of Them
How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs Fast!
If you discover that you have bed bugs at your house you might have the desire to burn the place down. Please, don’t do that. One, the pesky things might live through that, and that’s a waste of a perfectly good house.
Bed bugs are another pest, like head lice, that have been given the rap of only appearing in dirty houses. This isn’t true. They can be in the most kept places. They could be brought in on items ordered from overseas or in luggage.
The first thing you need to do is confirm that you have them. This can be done by looking for the tell tale signs such ash; tiny blood stains on your sheets or pillowcases, “rusty” spots on sheets and mattresses (this is actually bedbug excrement), or a musty smell from the bugs’ scent glands.
Once you have determined that you have them you can call a pest controller like us and we can help you out. If you want some tips on things you can do yourself, we can try to help. All bedding needs to be stripped and cleaned in hot water, if you have a dryer put the linens through the dryer on the highest setting. If you don’t have a dryer, you can hang the linens outside in direct sunlight where possible.
The mattress and the surrounding areas need to be scrubbed with a very stiff brush to remove any eggs and bugs. Then use a vacuum to clean the areas. You may want to consider a new mattress or wrapping your mattress in a tight zipper cover for at least a year. Bed bugs have a long lifespan and a year in a zipper cover will ensure they don’t come back.
Keep an eye out for any clues that they might be coming back and repeat the steps. If that doesn’t work you’ll need professionals to come in and help with the problem.
