Home remedy to send ants back to their holes
Ants Control Sunshine Coast
Ants are one of the most common pests not just on the Sunshine Coast, but in several places around the world. How can that be? You might ask yourself. The reason why ants are so common is because they are one of the easiest pests to attract. Even the smallest crumb left on the counter can turn into an ant magnet overnight. Ants oftentimes come indoors into homes and businesses either to seek refuge from harsh weather conditions or, most often, to find food. And when you find an ant inside, it’s never just one; ants are part of a colony that travels together. Because ants are so easily attracted, it can be a pain to have to call an exterminator every time you notice a trail of ants in your house. That’s why we wanted to share with you a few natural home remedies to send ants back to their holes so you can handle the ant invasion yourself.
Ants hate the smell of anything sour, which is why both lemon juice and vinegar work so well at keeping them out of your home. To use lemons, simply squeeze some lemon juice around the entryways and windows to your home. You can even clean the floor using a bit of lemon water for a fresh scent that you love, but the ants abhor. However, if you’d like to use vinegar, you should dilute the vinegar first by making a solution of one part water and one part vinegar. You can even add in some essential oils to help with the harsh smell- ants also dislike them- and spray the solution in all of the entryways to your home.
Something else that ants despise, along with citrus and vinegar, is certain spices. The main thing that attracts ants is sugar, but spices like salt and pepper are of no interest to them. Use a solution of black or cayenne pepper mixed with a bit of water to spray in entryways. Alternatively, you can boil water and add a generous amount of table salt. Simply spray that solution in corners of your house where ants frequent and they will stay away for good.
At the end of the day, ants aren’t as hard to get rid of (and keep away!) as you may have thought. If you make sure to clean up after yourself- especially in food preparation areas- and keep your garbage protected, you likely won’t experience a severe ant infestation. However, if you do, this home remedy is sure to get rid of them all – give us a call at Little Critters Pest Control.
